In 1958, I spent my 9th birthday in Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center NYC for open heart surgery (ToF). Heart surgery was in its infancy in the 50s. I did not do well and needed a second surgery in 1959. My repair was not perfect but for the first time, I could walk across a room and not be out of breath. At nine years old, I decided to become a doctor and help others. I practiced Radiology for 35 years in west Texas, traveled extensively and at 73, am still active with golf and working on our ranch.
